Monica/ July 9, 2016/ Home-boken, Picture Stories, Presents from the Present

This week, my husband and I are celebrating ten years of marriage, a.k.a. “happily ever after.”    This is the Picture-Story of whatever the hell that means.

That was Then and This Is Now…

Weddings are a very strange beginning.  We’ve found that nothing about ours translated into real life:

We once we thought to share everything. Now we know better.

At our wedding, we expected to share everything always.  Now, we know better.

We prayed for every little thing. Now we pray for the goddamn train to arrive.

At our wedding, we prayed for ourselves, our future, our families, our careers, etc.  Now, we just pray for the goddamn train to arrive.

We paraded ourselves in a fancy car. Now, we get tickets on our Mini Cooper and make a scene fighting about it.

At our wedding, a chauffeur paraded us around in an antique car.  Now, our Mini Cooper gets ticketed and we make a scene fighting about it.

We picked out fancy flowers and took pictures with them. Now, we maybe stop and sniff them.

At our wedding, we surrounded ourselves with fancy flowers.  Now, they are a waste of money.

We thought we were always going right where we wanted. Now, we know better.

At our wedding, my husband escorted me carefully down a white runner.  Now, he makes me take the bus.

We danced and danced and danced. Now, we drink and drink and drink...

At our wedding, we danced and danced and danced.  Now, we drink and drink and drink…

Is This Happily Ever After?

Yes, things are quite different from how they were at our wedding, but every day with this guy is special:

He sometimes makes me breakfast.  I always ignore him until I’ve had my coffee.

We aren't very good at adulting.

We try our best at all the adult things, like grocery shopping…

Or bills, bills, bills...

And bills, bills, bills…

We take our pastry selection very seriously.

But we take our pastry selection most seriously.

We have very different hobbies/obsessions…

But we make an effort to enjoy some down time together.

He doesn’t hesitate to invest in my happiness…

Even though he sometimes stops me from buying happiness myself.

He's always supportive.

He’s usually very supportive…

We make important decisions with clear minds.

And he keeps me grounded through the highest ups and smiling through the lowest downs.

Parties are a bit different.

But my favorite thing about the last ten years is that, no matter where we are or what we are doing, we are our own little party.

Final Food for Thought…

Who needs champagne when the chicken wings are this good?

Who needs champagne when the chicken wings are this good?

Special thanks to all of our Hoboken neighbors, especially our friends at the German Bakery, Show Nail & Spa, Aspen Marketplace, and 10th & Willow for letting us take these hilarious anniversary portraits.
